SRP
(Standard Response Protocol)

Safety and Security Department
Our Promise to this Community:

Brenham ISD would like to assure you that the safety and security of our students and staff is our number one priority.  This is a difficult standard, no doubt, considering today’s ever changing and evolving world, especially considering the rate of growth for our community.  To ensure we exceed the safety and security standards our safety protocols and plans are fluid as well, meaning we are constantly evaluating them and adapting them to meet the demands for the safety scenario at hand.

In order to accomplish the above priority, we have added additional layers of security for all of our campuses. Doors from the entrance to the main office will now be secured at all times and all visitors will need to be admitted into the secure office areas by a staff member.  We are adding security gates, perimeter fencing, bollards, enhancing our camera systems and many other initiatives to improve our security systems are exceptional.

Brenham ISD has also entered into a partnership with the courageous men and women of the Brenham Police Department to provide dedicated School Resource Officers on each of our campuses. In addition BISD has engaged in partnerships with local law enforcement agencies including the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, our Constable’s Offices, as well as the Brenham Fire Department, EMS, and the Office of Emergency Management.  Each of these dedicated emergency service providers routinely circulate through our elementary and secondary campuses to foster ongoing lifelong relationships with our students.

BISD also believes in training our staff on how to react in the event of any emergency on our campuses, or at our facilities.  Our staff are trained in CPR, Stop the Bleed, and each campus maintains a Crisis Response Team (CRT) to provide direction in the event exigent circumstances occur on campus.  While our staff’s main focus remains  engaging and educating our students, BISD endeavors  to ensure they have the knowledge and resources required to help prevent and respond to emergency situations. In order to do so, BISD follows the Standard Response Protocols as set out by the Texas State School Safety Center and the I Love You Guys Foundation.

Our greatest safety measure, however, is vigilance. If you see something suspicious, or disconcerting, online or in person, please say something.  Please report any suspicious activity or suspected dangers to the appropriate authorities immediately.  In closing, we are all responsible for the safety and security of our schools, our population, and our community.  If we may ever be of service to you our your organization, please do not hesitate to reach out to us.

  • Keeping our kids safe and secure is something we should all collaborate to accomplish, and we should all  have in common. With the advancements in technology and the speed of life, the internet has become a blessing and a curse. With that said, the Brenham ISD Department of Safety and Security would like to provide you with resources to help navigate some of the issues you may face with your child regarding cyber safety in an ever-evolving digital world.

The Texas State School Safety Center realizes this as well, and has partnered with Safer Schools Together to provide parents with some insights on cyber security and digital safety with a training video: Cyber Safety and Digital Responsibility: A Parent's Guide.  This 90 minute video provides some details on both the positive and negative ways youth are using, and may be misusing, technology and social media. This information can help inform and empower parents to engage in productive and useful conversations with their kids on how to safely navigate the challenges in our digital world.
