Brazos Valley Food Bank &
Washington County Food Security Initiative
This month the “You Make a Difference Award” recognizes two organizations that are committed to providing a healthy future for the students of Brenham ISD. The Brazos Valley Food Bank’s BackPack Program works to address childhood hunger by providing food to children at risk of going hungry over the weekend. Every Friday, the Brazos Valley Food Bank’s BackPack program sends bags of nutritious, shelf stable food to children at Alton Elementary, Brenham Elementary, and Krause Elementary to ensure that they have access to food when school meals are unavailable. Additionally, the Washington County Food Security Initiative has worked to supplement local summer feeding programs, and has also provided Brenham ISD with dozens of volunteers to assist with and work to expand the backpack programs.
